Labor Day 2025

AFT-Oregon Labor Day events in Portland

All out for migrant defense

Join AFT-Oregon leaders and members Labor Day - Monday, September 1 at 9am for a breakfast and rally at Glenhaven Park, 7900 NE Siskiyou St, Portland, OR 97213 (next to McDaniel High School.)

This event will launch Oregon Rising’s coordinated labor and community campaign against fascism and for a livable planet, strong schools, housing and worker justice, affordability and dignity for all.

Oregon Rising is a newly formed network of labor and community groups convened to build coordinated labor actions across our state inspired by the Minnesota Week of Action in 2024 and the Tennessee for All coalition. It was initiated by Jobs with Justice and Portland Association of Teachers and AFT-Oregon and PSU-AAUP are on the coordinating team.

For Labor Day, Oregon Rising is supporting the International Migrants Alliance campaign to advocate for migrant workers by protesting the abysmal conditions of the NW ICE Detention Center in Tacoma, WA - the deportation hub of the northwest. This action is in coordination with Washington state immigrant rights organizations.

We are invited to join the caravan up to the detention center. More information about the caravan below.

If you are staying in Portland, join us from 12 noon - 4pm for the Workers Over Billionaires Labor Day Rally & March starting at the Battleship Oregon Memorial in Tom McCall Waterfront Park. Meet AFT-Oregon folk by the Maritime Museum entrance around noon.

Let us know if you are coming to any of these events by RSVPing here. If you plan to attend the caravan, also RSVP to their form below.

Calling all human rights advocates! Join the Solidarity Action hosted by the International Migrants Alliance (IMA) and La Resistencia with support from the Oregon Rising Alliance. Community members are invited to join the caravan to Tacoma, WA I.C.E. detention facility to stand in solidarity with our migrant neighbors who have been kidnapped by our federal government.

If you'd like to participate, please scan the QR code or this link for more information. The plan is to meet up at the Glenhaven Park next to McDaniel HS in Portland at 9 am. There will be a press conference and some speeches, then the buses will leave by 10:10 am.
