General Election 2024 Endorsement Applications Open

AFT-Oregon 2024 Endorsement Application

AFT-Oregon will endorse candidates for Oregon State Treasurer, Oregon State Senator, and Oregon State Representative candidates running in November 2024. We also welcome applications for local candidates such as Portland City Council candidates to coordinate with our local unions. Candidates for local races must first be endorsed or recommended for endorsement by a local union

We will continue to endorse candidates who are:

  • Aligned with our mission and values
  • Dedicated to advancing quality and fully funded education for students
  • Committed to supporting our members whether on the picket line or in the halls of governance
  • Demonstrate a track record of labor solidarity and worker support
  • Located in a district where they can build community and a relationship with our local union members

All candidates endorsed by AFT-Oregon in the Primary Election have been automatically endorsed for the General Election.

Application Process

Candidates are encouraged to sign up for our Politics, Policy, Legislation, and Solidarity Activist Newsletter to stay up to date with our endorsement process and informed of our political and legislative organizing.

  1. Fill out our General Election 2024 Endorsement Application form before August 23rd.
  2. Be available and flexible to schedule a Zoom or in-person hybrid candidate interview with our members.
  3. Statewide candidates who have been chosen for endorsement by our members will be notified as soon as possible to obtain our logo and a voter’s pamphlet statement.

Endorsement Timeline

Our endorsement process is driven by volunteer members of our Politics, Policy, Legislation, and Solidarity Council. They will be reviewing applications in August 2024.

The window to submit applications will close the evening of August 23rd to allow time for interviews and follow ups. Endorsement decisions will be voted on by AFT-Oregon’s Executive Council ahead of the voter’s pamphlet statement of endorsement deadline.
